Firefighters voice no confidence in chief; Molina says they'll work through issues Brandon Formby / Reporter Posted:04/19/2011 10:49 AM A vast majority of Irving firefighters has signaled that they have no faith in Chief Mario Molina's ability to lead the department of 312 employees. More than 91 percent of Irving Professional Fire Fighters Association members who voted in a recent referendum on the chief said they have no confidence in Molina, who has been at the helm since 2007. In statements emailed to The News late Monday, city officials indicated they will work through the issues with the department's rank and file. City Manager Tommy Gonzalez called the department one of the best in the state and likened it to a family. Chief Molina said the department's inner turmoil won't affect safety and that the department's employees will work through the issues together. "Our number one priority is to continue to provide exceptional emergency services to the Irving Community. Working in good faith side by side with all IFD members we will find common ground and joint solutions to the concerns," Molina said.
